Outreach

The Outreach Committee at the Church of the Holy Spirit brings together our parish family assisting our community with time, talents, and resources. We are committed to positive and constructive outreach activities where everyone can participate, grow in spiritual awareness, and enjoy the experience.  For more information call or e-mail the church office.

Outreach activities currently include the following:

Berlin Nursing Home – The ECW coordinates a collection of blankets and socks in April and May for residents of the Alzheimers Unit at Berlin Nursing Home for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Camp Agape – Books and financial donations are collected during the Spring for Camp Agape which is a ministry for children of incarcerated parents in the Diocese of Easton.

Cold Weather Shelter at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – Food, toiletries, paper products, and cleaning supplies are collected and donated.

Cricket Center – Items are collected yearly for the Worcester County Child Advocacy Center based on the current needs of local children.

Worcester County Giving Other Lives Dignity (GOLD) – The Church of the Holy Spirit adopts children for both Easter and Christmas.  Easter baskets are assembled and delivered to the children and at Christmas, 3-4 gifts are collected for each child adopted for Christmas. Church members deliver the gifts to the child’s residence.  School supplies are collected in August for children and delivered to the GOLD office.

Food Collection – Church members volunteers on a Saturday in November collecting food items at a local grocery store. These items are then delivered to the Shepherd’s Crook at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

Nothing Other than Eating and Loving Community (NOEL) – Organized in 1998 by St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in south Ocean City. The ministry started as a sit-down dinner served at St. Paul’s by-the Sea on Christmas Day. The NOEL Community has been chaired by members of the Church of the Holy Spirit since 2002. NOEL has grown to a year round outreach including weekly carryout lunches. NOEL sponsors a gLOVEs drive near Valentines day, collecting gLOVEs, hats, socks, and scarves. Parishioners volunteer and provide donations to support the NOEL Community.

Shepherd’s Crook at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church – The church has a basket for weekly donations for the food pantry. Parishioners also assist with the activities at Shepherd’s Crook by delivering the food items, volunteering at the pantry, and preparing lunches.

“Souper” Bowl Sunday – Cans of soup are collected on Super Bowl Sunday and delivered to local food pantries.  The Sunday School and Youth Groups are active participants each year.

Worcester County Humane Society – The Sunday School and Youth Group organize a yearly collection of food and items for the cats and dogs at the local Humane Society.

“Adopt a Troop” –  The ECW coordinates a collection of items during January to send to military troops serving our country for Valentine’s Day. The youth make cards which are included in the boxes before they are shipped.
